Introduction
he port of Little Current on Manitoulin Island is located on the north channel of Lake Huron, in the centre of what is widely considered some of the greatest recreational boating areas in the world. Manitoulin Island is the largest fresh water island in the world and is home to several communities. It has a thriving and vibrant Ojibwe native Indian culture. It is the natural beauty of the waterways, the hospitable communities and the fascination with the Ojibwe culture that has allowed the cruise business to flourish on Manitoulin.
Manitoulin can be accessed by either the ferry link on-board the MS Chi-Cheemaun, or by land via Hwy. 6 at Little Current. Transfer time is approximately 90 minutes from Sudbury, 4 hours from Sault Ste. Marie and 6 hours from Toronto. Travelling up the Bruce Peninsula, total combined transfer time including the ferry portion is approximately 3 hours from Owen Sound. Manitoulin has several quaint towns with many shops and a flourishing art community.
